DAVIS, Bernard James

1932 - 2005

Bernard James Davis was born at Farnham, Kent on 1 September 1932, son of Ivor Davis and his wife Elsie née Larter. Bernard studied at Winchester School of Art 1949-1953 and the Royal Academy Schools 1953-1955 where sculptor Maurice Lambert (1901-1964) was one of his tutors. He married at Folkestone, Kent in 1954, painter Diana W. Hammond. An artist, sculptor and mosaicist and exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition also showing at the Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry and Towner Gallery, Eastbourne. He had commissions from St Philip's Cathedral in Birmingham, Holy Family Church in Dagenham, the Augustine Priory Hammersmith and Imberhorne School, East Grinstead. Bernard James Davis lived at Debenham, Suffolk before moving to Hayward's Heath, Sussex where he died on 6 December 2005.
