Jill Hodgson

Gillian R. Hodgson was born at Ipswich in 1961, daughter of John Emmerson Hodgson and his wife Jean V. née Farrow, who married at Ipswich in 1956. Jill studied at Ipswich School of Art & Design in the 1980s, graduating in interior design in 1984, thereafter Jill embarked into the commercial world of architecture and interior design. After a time in Australia 1999-2000, being inspired by the native plants, her talents as a designer diversified into that as an artist, successfully exhibiting in various shows and galleries in Melbourne. Returning to England, she settled back into interior design, but discovered a new medium to excite her as an artist, in the contemporary use of plaster like pargetting of old, creating a highly textured finish, exploring all types of subject matter from landscapes, figurative to abstract. From 2003 Jill has successfully exhibited her work in various shows and galleries in Suffolk and Essex, including the Ipswich Art Society when she exhibited from Vernon House, Main Road, Chelmondiston, Suffolk, a plaster & paint 'The River Wide' and was selected to exhibit a piece in the ‘Discerning Eye Exhibition’ at the Mall Galleries, London in 2008. Her work is to be found in the Buckenham Galleries, Southwold.
